Why I'm A Creepo (and a little about this blog)

So my mom tells me that when I was little, I would sit up tall and straight in my stroller and just stare at people. Yeah, kinda creepy. I know.
Every so often, she said I would point at someone and ask her, “Mommy, does he know God?”

I guess I haven’t grown up much.
Because I’m still pretty good at sitting up tall and straight, thanks to all those piano lessons.
I still love to watch people. (Wow. I’m creeping you out even more. Please don’t give up on me just yet.)
What I mean is, I love to be around people, listen to their stories, occasionally yell at them in 5pm traffic, even make up hypothetical scenarios about the ones I don’t know running through the airport terminal.

And I still ask the same question, but not as much to others, as I do to myself:
“Do I know God? Like really know Him?”

I guess that’s why I have this blog.
I want to write about my journey to get to know God more and more.
And I want to hear about your God journey too.
Let’s ask questions, admit doubts, tell funny jokes and vent about bad days.

And then, after all of that, I want to remember what I believe this crazy life and even this silly little blog should be all about:

“And this is the real and eternal life:
that they know you, the one and only true God,
and Jesus Christ, whom you sent” (John 17:3, The Message).

Speaking of knowing (smooth transition, huh? J), since this blog is new and we are just getting to know each other, here is a little more about me.

My "always-have-time-for":
My husband (cliché), peanut butter (crunchy), playing Catch Phrase, texting with my two sisters, sitting at Starbucks with dad and in the kitchen with mom, sour candy, Teva sandals, old hymns, eating breakfast, clean sheets and NBA basketball.
My "aint-nobody-got-time-for-that":
Driving (I struggle with road rage in a bad way), crowded malls, jars that I can’t open, stubbing my toe, flossing, shaving (just hygiene in general), delayed flights, mosquitos, room-temperature coffee, diet sodas (give me the read deal), the pink eye.

What about you? Tell me some of your "time-for's" and "nobody-got-time-for's".
As I read your posts, I’m just going to pretend we are sitting together on my back porch, sipping on some cider gettin’ to know each other.
And since I believe we are each image bearers of God, my prayer is that as we learn about one another, we will learn more about God too.
That’s, at the end of the day, what matters.
That’s, I believe, where we find real life.

  1. So happy I stumbled on this! I so love& appreciate the wisdom you gave to me in the two Revolve tours I went to years ago and am thankful that because you were honest& vulnerable in sharing your story in becoming a woman of the Lord I could be honest in my own story as I gave more of my heart to the Lord everyday. It is so sweet to have another role model who speaks the truth refreshingly and doesn't leave "messiness" of the story out because really, the messiness is what makes a story beautiful because it shows us why we need Christ. Thankful for you Jenna! Something about me, my "time-for's:" drinking coffee leisurely with my momma, trying to understand football with my dad& brothers, being silly with the girls in my dorm, and curling up with a sweet book. My "nobody-got-time-for"s: its stilly, but I hate it when no one refills the toilet paper rolls- like hello, its an easy 5 seconds. Also, bugs. They are just icky. :)

  3. As a teenager, I listened to you and watched every video I could about you because you seemed so real. Something I couldn't find in very many places. Now I'm married, doing part time mission work and soon to graduate from college and I'm still reflecting on the same things I used as a teen.
    I always give time to:
My husband, our youth group (The best), reading a good book, prayer time (not as much as I wish I did), daddy dates (had to keep em' going even after I got married), and our sweet new pup.
I Have ZERO patience for: Homework and reading, Complaining and negative talk (Get's on my nerves), and laundry.

  4. My "always-have-time-for":
A massage. Godiva Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt. Wonderfully flavored coffee (Hot ;-)). Laughing with my 3 favorite men (My husband & 2 sons). A beautiful sky. Sushi with my mom. Yoga pants & hoodies. Bubble baths. Movie night with a good friend. Singing really awesome songs in the car (it helps with my road rage ;-)). Soaking in the presence of the Holy Spirit. Good food.
    My "ain't-nobody-got-time-for-that":
Flossing (totally agree). Folding laundry. Humidity. Uncomfortable clothes (I don't care how cute they look!). Dirty dish rage. A stuffed up nose. Chapped lips (mine are always, ugh!). Shallowness. Bad pedicures (I could have done that myself). When there's not enough milk left for my bowl of cereal.

  5. I'm stumbling on your blog for the first time-- good read! Adding you to my bloglovin for sure. :-)
My always-have-time-fors: Target, anything plant-related, painting my nails, (good) coffee, my favorite French patisserie down the street, a good book, sea-salt spray on my hair, freshly brushed teeth, and a good Internet-shopping binge.
My ain't-nobody-got-time-for-that: pettiness, broken umbrella, gum-under-the-desk, dirty hair that LOOKS dirty, cold feet, bad coffee, that time of the night when my contacts are dry and I forgot to bring eye drops or glasses, bad tv shows
Praying to know God more in an intimate way as well... Thanks for the thoughts!

  7. Hey Jenna! I'm another one of your Revolve girls...I went for quite a few years with my three best friends. I'm glad you've started a blog! You're a great writer and are super relatable. :)
My "time-for's": Chai tea (or sweet tea--Southern girl), dancing and baking (because that's what kitchens are for), Chacos, painting my nails, movies, fuzzy blankets, time with the rents, catching up with my sister, star-gazing, youth group, laughter, night-time devotionals, anything with friends.
My "ain't-nobody got time for that's": stressful schoolwork, always feeling tired, schedule conflicts, egos, flavored water (I think it's good the way it is), breakouts (someone's gotta say it...) and those moments when you need a hair tie but can't find one.

  8. Oh, Jenna! Thrilled to see you around here. :) So excited to return & get to know ya better!

My "time-for's'': Jesus {totally what I should say, but I promise I'm being honest.}, learning New Testament Greek, dance parties usually for one, being hopefully romantic, youth group, COFFEE, Netflix, true friends young & old, writing, reading, photography, coloring, Disney movies, and sarcasm galore.

My "ain't-nobody-got-time-for-that's": Losing bobby pins, studying hard for a test & not getting what you hoped for, people who aren't authentic, the way I become the Lion King in the Kansas humidity, malls {with a few exceptions}, parents who won't let you stay up late at sleepovers, and... there's more, but I've written too much & you'll see me around again soon. ;) Happy new year, Jenna!

  13. Hi Jenna! :) I was very blessed by your book "From Blah to Awe" I pray the prayer at the end of the book every morning and it has been a huge blessing. I heard you preach at a Revolve Tour in Tampa and the way you speak is truly touching. You are a great example to me and I'm so happy you have this blog now! The way you write is so relatable and real and it really feels like you are speaking to me face to face. May God continue to use you greatly! :)

My "Always Have Time For": reading things I like, Jesus time, singing (I literally sing all the time..I don't know how I still have friends haha), all things Disney, hugs from my mom, doing my nails, smiling, laughing and enjoying life.
My "Ain't Nobody Got Time For That": slow drivers on a one lane road, not having an umbrella when you desperately need one, putting a new bag on the trash can, undecided drivers (like dude pick a lane! decide which way your going! haha), cockroaches, and making a decision on Netflix (if only Netflix could read our brains and choose a good movie/show for us).

  16. I don't know if someone will ever read this but I just happen to stumble on your blog. And your first entry already hit me. Pride & fear. Yep 2 stumbling blocks of my life but God has been very patient with me. (Thank HIM for His goodness.) Well. My "always have time for" are reading a book, watch a movie, sleep, chat with my family and friends, browse articles related to Christ and just spend time with Him. My "ain't nobody got time for that" partying, nonsense talks, shopping, and music that are so lame. I got to protect my heart from bad seeds. so yep. Looking forward on reading all of this stuff up.
